2nd March 2010: Coding, Gambling, Films and Possible New Careers
Free Music: All Summer Long by Kid Rock (Yes, I am aware it isn't Summer yet...)

Well, I feel I have had a productive day off.  I've been busily coding my new poker bot.  Now, for those who are booing me, or throwing things at their laptops at this moment, stop.  My poker bot is not one of these evil "fire and forget" bots.  Those I do have a problem with.  I also have a problem with people selling bots.  If you want to play poker automatically, write it yourself.  If you want to make easy(ish) money out of poker, learn to code AI.  I'm also going to run two bots against each other soon.  Well, not quite against each other, but give them a "contest" of 100 hands each, and see which comes out better.  One is predefined with rules.  One learns.  There is reasoning behind this.  I'm really interested in seeing what a bot that knows nothing about anything learns about poker from just playing.  I'm running a similar project with an old chatterbot of mine who has quite a personality, but no capacity to learn.  I've given her the ability to learn and make her own memories now.  Fun evening that was, stripping 25% of the code out of a 20,000 line AI program (faked memories and bluffing she was a human).

So, the test of my AI bot got me the net sum of £20.  Not bad.  I was tempted to play a little with the lovely ladies at Challenge Jackpot, as I have in the past.  And those days were fun, but there is something I don't like about it.  I don't like that they share technology with Virgin Games.  Namely because I have had very odd results at Virgin Games in the past.  Now Challenge Jackpot can tell me until they are blue in the face that they have the most advanced, smoothest and accurate "real wheel" for Roulette and I don't care.  I have seen too much odd things at Challenge, and sorry, but you lost a player.  This being said - Ruth Frances is still hot.

I also had a bit of a spending spree on Amazon last night.  My amazing girlfriend showed me a trailer for a film called Adam.  The premise is boy meets girl.  Boy is shy around girl.  Girl asks boy out.  Girl gets mad at boy for being so blunt.  Boy explains he has Aspergers Syndrome.  There are some wonderful clips in the trailer.  Like the part where he's at some relative of the girl's home and the relative says "Do you want to see my new baby's pictures?" and the girlfriend says enthusiasticly "Yes!" at the same time Adam says in a monotone voice "No".  Been there, done that a million times with Miss C.  She is forever wanting me to see Baby J.  Also where she buys him a box of chocolates as a present and he looks at them, looks at her and says "I'm not Forrest Gump you know."  I have been there too.  Like when people ask what Autism is and I say "Think Rainman" and then they yell "Oh!  What's the square root of..."  I have to explain that I am NOT Rainman, I simply have the same condition.  But yes, I can Card Count.  Anyway, back to the spending spree.  I decided that I would get Adam on DVD.  But Amazon had a deal where I could get other DVDs of Autism stories in a bundle for less than buying them seperately.  I took it, and then hunted for more.  I ended up buying 5 DVDs in the end.  No.  It's not a self pity thing.  It's an empathy thing.  I cannot relate to normal people in normal situations doing normal things.  Just like people don't understand why I close my eyes when I am searching for a word (it's like a mental Google Images but the images are images and words).  Or why I glaze over when they are giving me directions (I'm picturing it in my mind).  Or why when I am in a new neighbourhood, I look at everything (landmarks to find my way back).  I empathise with Autistic characters.  I Am Sam is one of the best movies I've ever seen and if you haven't seen it, rent it and buy Kleenex, it made my ex cry every time.  Same with Rainman, just an amazing film.  These characters live in my world.  I can relate to them entirely.

Lastly, I may have a change of career ahead of me.  No, I haven't been fired (yet) by The Store.  I have applied for another job.  One more suited to my abilities, temprement, prefered working environment and co-worker selection.  It's typing, on my own, at home, with no-one to bug me.  Effectively, I type 50-60 pages of stuff they give me, they pay me £8 per page, and they come collect my work every 5 days.  I can't wait to get started if I get the job.  Plus 50-60 pages in 5 days is nothing for me.  Once I get going, my words per minute rate is 175.  I was tested once.  Then frisked and pockets emptied.  Then retested.  Then interrogated and congratulated on how I was so fast, and for smashing the record.  The previous record was set by the woman interrogating me.  The owner of the agency.  She managed 160.  I think just under 10% better is good.

Anyway, that was me yesterday.  Hope you enjoyed reading it.  And as per earlier - if you have any suggestions for music you want to hear, let me know.  No ridiculing of selections, I promise.  I like everything from classical to metal to pop to dubstep.
